Marjorie’s Legacy

Continuing a Mother’s Desire to Help Families Facing Mental Illness

Marjorie Fleming wanted her legacy to help others. Through her family’s love and commitment, that desire now lives on through the Marjorie Fleming Endowment for Mental Health Awareness, Education, and Support.

This endowment supports the work of Saint Louis Counseling by helping parish communities learn how to respond when mental health challenges touch the lives of individuals and families. It is a lasting way to encourage empathy, reduce shame, and help people know they do not have to carry their struggles alone.

For families facing mental illness, knowing where to turn can make all the difference. The Marjorie Fleming Endowment helps create sustainable support so more people can be met with understanding, compassion, and connection to trusted resources.

Kathleen’s Story

A Family’s Story. A Legacy of Hope.

In these short videos, Kathleen shares the story behind the Marjorie Fleming Endowment — a story shaped by family, faith, mental health, and the desire to help others find support sooner. Her words point to a simple but powerful hope: that more people in parish communities will know how to respond with empathy when someone is struggling.

Watch the four short excerpts below.

Empathy for Families Who Are Struggling

Kathleen reflects on empathy — for individuals living with mental illness and for the family members carrying pain, shame, fear, and uncertainty alongside them.

A Seed That Can Keep Growing

Marjorie’s legacy began as a seed. With support, that seed can grow into training, understanding, and connection for more parish communities across the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Training That Reaches Beyond the Parish Office

The endowment helps create a ripple effect — equipping priests, teachers, parish staff, volunteers, and community members to respond with compassion and connect people to resources.

No Amount Is Too Small

Every gift helps grow a sustainable and lasting source of support, so this work can reach more families and parish communities over time.
