How Saint Louis Counseling’s School Partnership Program Works
At Saint Louis Counseling, a ministry of Catholic Charities, we support healing and improved mental health for individuals and families of all backgrounds through professional counseling and psychiatry services. For many of our clients, these services take place in a traditional office setting. But we also provide care in other ways in order to meet our clients’ needs. One of these additional ways is through our School Partnership Program. The SPP makes it possible for students in preschool through 12th grade to access counseling services, without cost to students, right where they already spend most of the week.
More than 120 schools participate in the School Partnership Program. These schools have a compassionate, professional therapist from Saint Louis Counseling on site up to five days a week, helping students work through a variety of struggles, school-related or not. These can include heightened anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, or stress from a major life event. As individual students experience greater balance and wellbeing, this also contributes to a healthy school environment.
When a student could benefit from services, parents or guardians can contact the therapist at their school directly or ask school staff for help arranging it. School faculty and administrators can also refer students for services. Students oftentimes encourage their friends to try meeting with the therapist, too.
The School Partnership Program serves more than 3,200 students each year in public, Catholic, and other private schools. For nine years in a row, the School Partnership Program has earned a 98% satisfaction rate among students or families served.
In addition to services from embedded therapists, Saint Louis Counseling’s School Partnership Program also offers:
- School-based services on an as-needed basis
- Crisis response services when trauma affects the school community
- Consultative services to equip staff
- Prevention services in the form of educational programs for students, faculty, and/or parents
We’re able to provide the School Partnership Program to students free of charge thanks to funding from Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, investment from participating schools, and generous program supporters.
